Day 4 Thursday June 2nd Minot ND to Havre MN

Only one picture today for reasons which will become obvious.
On the way from the B&B in Parshall back to Hwy 2 we encountered wave after wave of oil field 18 wheelers & pickups.  It was like an invasion.  Oil dericks & storage tanks dotted the countryside.  The hwy went back to 2 lanes but the winds were wicked.
Close to Saco MN we encounter a sand storm combined with gusting winds & hail.  We decided to park it & took refuge on a store porch until things calmed down.  A wise move.  After about 20 minutes the sun came out & we were on our way again battling the wind.
Hanging out, waiting for the weather to improve

Montana really is big sky country.  You can see for days.  The fields along the hwy were flooded way more than we have in Huron County.   The land was cover in small hills or domes about 20 ft high.  The whole countryside looked like bubble wrap. Kind of neat to look at until we got caught in the second hail & rain storm. Ouch that stuff really smarts.
We ended the day with 10 kms of construction.  The wind was coming over a ridge beside us & circling back trying to knock down from the right (for a change).  The road was completely torn up with pot holes, gravel & mud.  The cars & trucks ahead of us we tip toeing through this mine field @ 30 kph.  Great! We were barely going fast enough to stay upright in the gusting wind.  Several times I was tempted to blast up on the road beside us & to rip past the pansies.  However I didn't. We arrived safely (cursing)  @ our destination after completing 700lms. We could see the foothills of the Rockies in the distance.
Interestingly Havre is pronounced as Haver by the locals.  Go figure.  When questioned about the wind we were told it only blows during the daytime in that area not all the time as in other parts of Montana.  Oh joy!
