We did 800 km's today! Wow, a new personal record. 1t was actually much easier than I anticipated. I guess the sheep skin is working. National Forests lined the 2 lane highway most of the day. Nice gentle sweeping turns through rolling the forest. I beeped hello to a deer who turned tail & disappeared into the forest. Maybe the deer whistles are a good idea.
Everything went well (500kms) until just before lunch when we encountered severe wind & rain. The wind gusted to 80 kph & the rain was horizontal! I couldn't believe it. The wind was trying to blow the bike out from under me. Peter was leading the way through the bike wash. Everytime a gust would hit him I knew that 3 seconds later I was going to do the same wobble. Thank goodness the storm only lasted about 20 minutes.
Eleven hours after we started in the morning we arrived in Duluth MN ready for our Duty Free beverage & supper.
Mid-morning break @ the tip of Lake Superior.
During the afternoon I was thinking that we should rename our adventure to "Long Way Up" in the Ewan McGreggor & Charlie Boorman tradition. For those that don't know, Ewan & Charlie did two inspirational motorcycle adventures. One where they circumvented the world know as Long Way Round. The other trip was Long Way Down. In that adventure they went from the most northerly tip of Scotland to the tip of South Africa. Needless to say, both Peter & I were inspired by Ewan & Charlie to do our Adventure of A Lifetime.
